Being an enthusiastic proponent of restricting hydraulic fracturing – fracking – the Democratic nominee has reversed her view and informed that she will not ban the practice and that not even in her capacity as Vice President has she done so.
In answer to a question posed to him during the presidential debate on Tuesday, Former President Trump stated that it will ban fracking in Pennsylvania after Harris New Jersey becomes President.
When asked, Trump triggered, ‘Fracking? Oh, she has opposed it for the last 12 years, what else do you want?’ “In case she was elected, fracking in Pennsylvania would end on day one, that is day 1,” he claimed as per NBC Chicago.
In a similar manner, Harris said ‘I’m ready: “I actually won’t ban fracking. Do I have to ban fracking as Vice President of America? ‘Well, more than yes’. I was actually the one to help pass the draught – breaking vote on an act that not only bans fracking but opened new professions for the leasing of fracking gas.’
What is fracking?
Fracking, or “hydraulic fracturing,” does not come from sleep. It consists of vertical wells that are drilled, cased and cemented through at least the overburdened formations. USGS has surveying earthquake and fracking effects research on groundwater quality around the United states and its environmental a Wyoming-pertinent water situation. Non destruction allowed wreck below storming and packing wastelands while welding waters down at disintegration on crumble fillings inside on levels above thermal arch feelings where rests cyclo around swelling.
Hydraulic fracturing is a well stimulation method which is most often applied in low-permeable rocks such as a tight sandstone, shale and some coal beds, to enhance the oil and/or gas output from the petroleum-bearing rocks of the well. The same approach is taken in order to create permeability in the underground geothermal reservoirs. Hydraulic fracturing services are applied in the low – permeable sediments other tight subsurface formations assisted by soil vapor extraction and the suite of remediation technologies for contaminated sites.
What made Harris speak about the ban of fracking in the past?
Harris was also one of the candidates supporting a fracking ban in order to combat the climate crises during the 2019 primary season stating, ‘There’s no question I’m in favour of banning fracking and starting with what we can do on day one around public land, all of these’.
As recently as in 2020, during the presidential elections campaign, Harris had said several times that she was ready to assume a position on the prohibition of this practice for the purpose of resolving issues related to climate change.
What convinced her to change her opinions?
Fracking was one of the issues that was not on the table for her five years into Harris administration. In an interview with Dana Bash from CNN, the Vice President explained where these changes in her policies are coming from and added that she was in support of growing fracking leases when she was the vice president. Trump went on to say that it was rather hypocritical because Harris has lost her stance on the issue, she said “She gave away at least maybe eight, well do you have 12, maybe 14 or 15 different policies which she gave up?”
What so disturbing about fracking?
Fracking will remain a controversial practice due to the reasons associated with environmental and health effects. Various publications and researchers have pointed out fracking as having the capacity to bring in a tremor, consumption of huge volumes of water, production of large amounts of waste-water, and release of greenhouse gases like methane in the atmosphere. It has also been found that the events surrounding fracking, such as the release of chemcals used in fracking, antagonizes the health of the individual.
Some thereared, policies for such water polygonide fissure-garings which fracking supportersavowed will compromise on how much crude oil other fossil fuels the United States will bring in from outside countries and rather focus internally. Organizations such as the American Petroleum Institute point out the numerous jobs either directly or in-directly related to the energy industry that are cemented and/or supported by such activities as fracking or drilling.
As per the findings acquired from the survey that was conducted by the US National Human Exposure Assessment Survey (NHES), fracking has been said to affect water quality, which has been noted to be an issue of concern. Hydraulic fracturing fluids distinguish the non- invasive process of oil wells & mining due to some chemicals in it which are detrimental to the health of people and the environment when bacteria rather claims fresh water supplies. Other issues concern the disposal of chemicals that are retrieved and treated as wastewater. Another possible threat stems from the release of air pollutants into the atmosphere.
