Despite his appointment as Telangana’s new Governor, Tripura’s former Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma was clueless about the same until Prime Minister Narendra Modi and State Chief Minister Revanth Reddy called him.
Jishnu Dev Varma, who lost in Charilam constituency of Sepahijala district in 2023 assembly election, made history by becoming the first person from Tripura to be appointed as a Governor of any state.
“I did not know that I would become the next governor of Telangana until PM Modi contacted me on Saturday night. He informed me that I had to go outside Tripura or wherever else. I replied that I could do anything given,” said the BJP leader at a press briefing on July 28.
“Telangana CM Revanth Reddy welcomed me to Telangana and it was then that I realized that indeed, he meant my new post as its Governor,” he mentioned.
Varma also disclosed that he would reach Telangana on July 31st and take charge of being its Governor on the same day itself.
“Modi visits Tripura when there are no elections. When I was the Deputy CM holding portfolios such as Finance, Rural Development and Power, the PM helped me. Never before has someone from Tripura become a Governor of any State,” he said.
Tripura is my birth place while growing up here and starting my political career from this small state. My home state for which even if I have to leave for another place such as Telangana, we may share views and thoughts together so as to be helpful to each other,” he said.
Mr. Varma, who joined BJP from Congress in 1993 night before, became the new Governor of Telengana on July 27th evening.
