Senior IAS officer Mr. Govind Mohan assumed the charge of Union Home Secretary on Friday (August 23, 2024) when incumbent Ajay Kumar Bhalla retired.
Mr. Mohan, a Sikkim-cadre IAS officer of 1989 batch, was serving as Union Culture Secretary before he was appointed Union Home Secretary last week.
This senior bureaucrat holds a B.Tech from Banaras Hindu University and a PG Diploma from IIM, Ahmedabad; his diverse experience covers several years of working in both Sikkim and central governments at different levels.
Mr. Govind Mohan is one of the smartest officers presently serving in the government who is known for his dedication.
He had served in the Home Ministry as an additional secretary taking care of many departments.
As a seasoned bureaucrat, Mohan Pandey also performed the role of being the key government official during COVID-19 pandemic by overseeing its implementation and ensuring that there was smooth coordination with States regarding various protocols decided upon.
