WEST GLACIER MONTANA: A couple of men lost their lives in Glacier National Park, over the fourth of July holiday weekend, according to park officials.
A twenty six year old Indian man was hiking on Avalanche Lake Trail on Saturday morning when he walked near Avalanche Creek, slipped on rocks and was caught in the cold, fast-moving water. He went under the water and surfaced for a brief moment before being swept through a small canyon around 8:30 am.
Helicopter crews and park rangers searched for the man; but they think his body is trapped underwater within the canyon. The creek is running high from melting snow. The weather conditions are very bad for visibility purposes and searching has been curtailed; however rangers are watching over it says an authority from the park’s management office.
The man was living and working in California and came to the park with friends.
On Saturday evening at about 6:25 pm, a Nepalese national aged 28 drowned while swimming with others at Lake McDonald close to Sprague Creek Campground as per his friends’ remarks that he did not know how to swim well.
According to Gina Icenoggle, a spokesperson for the parks system there is shallower water at the lake’s edge but right where he disappeared there is a large decline.” His body was then recovered by Flathead County Sheriff’s Office dive team at approximately 8:20 p.m., in between thirty-five and forty feet (11-12 meters) deep waters.”
The deceased was living/working in Portland Oregon on vacationing with pals.
The Nepal consulate as well as India have since been informed by Park authorities on how assistance can be accessed regarding reaching out to families of those who perished. As yet unnamed persons they were described as “Drowning accidents remain one of the highest among deaths experienced so far by such parks” states management officials.
