On August 28, 2024, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation announced the formation of a sub-committee to assist them in improving traffic management in the city.
Additional Commissioner (Traffic and IT) of GHMC contains and the Executive Engineer, GHMC; Managing Director HUMTA HMDA; HMDA Joint Commissioner; and Zonal Commissioner (Khairtabad Zone), GHMC comprise the committee.
In a note released by Amrapali Kata, the GHMC Commissioner, the committee has proposed the use of a distributed priority controlled intersectional signalizing system to manage concurrent and potential excessive traffic with the use of relevant modern state of the art technologies such as sensors, Parami and data analysis for a continuous follow up on the traffic.
The committee’s remit also includes activities such as: Activities related to the selection and engagement of appropriate system integration that can design, deploy, and sustain a cost effective and scalable Traffic Management System (TMS) optimal for the city’s traffic management system.
The memo provides an example of the Traffic Management Master Plan detailing activities that will facilitate traffic flow measures parking: “Creation of a thorough parking management plan whereby parking hotspots would be identified and managed so that occupancy regulations for on street and off street parking and use of smart parking systems to ease congestion and enhance traffic.”
