According to the New York Post, Governor Gavin Newsom of California was recently quoted in an interview where he revealed that “I’ve been told to say it is open….” such that it is possible for Kamala Harris to win Democratic presidential nomination.
President Biden’s recent declaration last month of not seeking reelection provided room for Harris to top the ticket. Despite not having received any votes from the Democratic Party electorate, Harris has seen a rise in polling and fundraising, with the party quickly rallying behind her.
Gavin Newsom mocks Kamala Harris’ nomination process
Newsom’s comments on “Pod Save America” Friday set off conversations. He jokingly described how nominations are made. In his words; “We went through a very open process, a very inclusive process. It was bottom-up, I don’t know if you know that. That’s what I’ve been told to say,” he laughed after saying this.

Furthermore, Newsom mentioned about how fast the nomination was done indicating that Democrats held a 30-minute convention between President Biden’s tweets on July 21 when Biden said he would step down and support Harris.“It’s been amazing,” said Newsom who himself is considered as someone who could run for president one day.
Even though Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats have defended the integrity of their selection process for nominating Harris herself has stated otherwise. Newsom’s clips have gone viral as they were being shared on social media platforms such as Twitter.
Debate rages over these comments by public figures on social media
Glenn Greenwald tweeted: “The Party of Democracy is laughing about how undemocratic and non-transparent their process was for selecting and then imposing the new Democratic presidential nominee on the nation.”
Another detractor wrote: “Gavin Newsome knows perfectly well that Harris’ nomination was a top-down takeover, and they all know it too. Is this really ‘democracy’ they want to preserve? What a cruel joke on their own supporters and this country.”
