“People are being confused by the claim of the opposition party that BJP would amend the constitution, if they retained power while it was Congress which had proposed 80 amendments to the constitution during its time in power,” said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday.
Gadkari also accused Congress party of bad economic policy that had kept people in poverty throughout the nation.
The Minister for Road Transport and Highways addressed an election rally at Majalgaon town in Maharashtra’s Beed district to support Pankaja Munde, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Beed Lok Sabha seat.
“Our rivals did not manage to win people over, so they confused them. We (the BJP) were charged with wanting to modify the constitution; however, there is a Supreme Court ruling stating that only amendments could be made on it, but not changes. So far so far So far, Congress has amended the Constitution 80 times.
“We will not stop and continue our work till every poor person has been reached. The fact remains that this country is poor because of Congress’s wrong economic policies. We have worked for 10 years but congress party has been in power for 60 years and done nothing. Now that they do not have evidence against our work which can contest elections, they want to confuse us,” said Gadkari
Gadkari urged voters not vote based on caste or religion as he spoke ahead of elections.
“What about when we have heart operations? Will we ask what our doctor’s clan is? If you vote for Pankaj then only shall we find solutions to problems regarding ring roads, flyovers and access roads around here with me.”
In terms of vehicles, there are many companies producing CNG-powered two-wheelers,” he said
“For sugar mills setting up ethanol pumps where fuel may be sold for such vehicles will be allowed. Henceforth farmers will not only generate energy but also use agro-waste to make aviation fuel and bio-bitumen,” he said.
Marathwada district’s Beed constituency will go for voting on May 13.
