Four labourers died while one suffered burn injuries at Guru Star fireworks unit in Banthuvarpatti of Sattur early morning of June 29.
On June 29, 2024 four workers lost their lives in an explosion which occurred at a firecracker manufacturing unit near Sattur in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu.
It is said to have been caused by friction during mixing of chemicals at the DRO-licensed fireworks factory according to preliminary investigation.
The police identified the dead as M. Rajkumar (43) of Achchankulam, K. Marichamy (40) of Soorangudi and M. Selvakumar (35) and M. Mohan (30), both from Chathrapatti.
They all had burns
At the same time K Ramachandran (60). Who was on watch duty for the factory was also hit by fragments flying through him. He has been admitted to Sattur Government Hospital where bodies were also shifted.
The three working sheds belong to Sahadevan’s and they were destroyed by the blast.
Fire and Rescue department personnel from Sattur rushed to the scene and put out fire.
Further investigations are being carried out by Sattur Taluk police.
