The NTR Commissionerate police arrested four out of five-member gang of fake police, including a woman, who robbed cash from a goldsmith and recovered ₹25.57 lakh cash from the gang.
The accused have been identified as — Chegu Pardhasai, Subhani Khan, G. Vamshi Krishnam Raju, Prathipati Shanti and rowdy sheeter Shaik Azharuddin — all natives of Vijayawada. Two of the gang members intercepted a car from coming from Jaggaiahpet in an area under Satyanarayanapuram police station limits on December 11.
They introduced themselves as police, took away the cash and escaped. Following a complaint, a special team was constituted with Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Tirumaleswar Reddy and Additional DCP (Crimes) M. Raja Rao to detect the case, said Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu at a press conference on Friday.
During investigation, it was found that Pardhasai, who lived in Jaggaiahpet for sometime had migrated to Vijayawada and was staying at Sitarampuram area. On learning that, the victim was travelling from Jaggaiahpet to Chennai with cash in a car, Pardhasai, planned to rob the victim posing as police and the gang executed their plan. Later, they shared some amount and threw the victim’s mobile phone in a canal.
On a tip-off, the police arrested the accused in a house located near BRTS Road and recovered the cash, the Police Commissioner said.
