Surendra Nath Naik, the former Minister of Odisha and a senior BJD leader died on 5th July morning in Bhubaneswar according to his family. He was 87.
His family said that he had suffered from diseases associated with age and died in his home at Bhubaneswar.
Between 1971 and 2009, Naik had been elected as an M.L.A for seven successive terms from Kakatpur constituency of Odisha Assembly on Utkal Congress, Janata Dal and BJD tickets.
Naik had been a minister in many departments including excise, revenue, agriculture, school and mass education as well as panchayati raj under the leaderships of Patnaiks—Biju and Naveen.
The funeral service was attended by the Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi together with Deputy Chief Ministers K. V. Singh Deo and Pravati Parida among others who paid tribute to the politician in State Assembly and Speaker Surama Padhi
Mr. Majhi also mentioned that he was “a great leader who has gone leaving a void that will never be filled.” He also expressed condolences to the bereaved family of Naik.

As an able politician and public representative, his humanitarian work will be a source of inspiration for all.’ May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the bereaved family members,” Mr. Patnaik said.
The body was taken to Sankha Bhawan-the party’s headquarters where senior leaders of the party paid their last respect.
