On Thursday, while attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, New York Representative and veteran Pat Ryan spoke. Ryan, 42 years old, referred to the President as Donald Trump ‘FUBAR’ which is an acronym for “F**ked Up Beyond All Recognition”. When he was elected to congress in 2022, he said he was an Iraq war vet.
“They didn’t let me say it on TV but I can tell you how I feel about Donald Trump. There’s a term from my army days called FUBAR. Google it if you don’t know what it means,” Ryan suggested.
He is the only graduate of West Point who represents his alma mater in Congress. The district includes all of Orange County, and parts of Ulster and Dutchess counties. His service during the Iraq War when he served for 27 months as an intelligence officer was emphasized by him referring to his personal experiences and military academy located within the area.
Congressman Ryan focuses on Veterans Affairs in his role on the House Armed Services Committee. He set up a program this summer where caseworkers drive around his district helping veterans get their benefits from the government.
This decision gave Ryan great visibility on the last night of convention which was held on Wednesday. Some other New York Democrats who addressed during the convention include Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer Tuesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries Wednesday and Governor Kathy Hochul Monday.
A native of Ulster County, Ryan graduated from West Point in 2004. This year at Democratic National Convention became an outlet for sharing with people his experience and priorities in legislation pertaining to veterans’ problems.
