Precautionary measures were adopted by officials of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA-Chintoor), Revenue and Police Departments to deal with the first wave of Godavari flood that would hit the submergence area of Polavaram irrigation project at Godavari valley.
The increasing water inflow in river Godavari and Sabari rivers indicated that a first spell of Godavari floods are here in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.
If such a disaster happens, ITDA-Chintoor Project Officer Kavuri Chaitanya and Rampachodavaram ASP (Operations) K.V. Maheswara Reddy have ordered their officers to provide boats and identify rehabilitation campsites for opening them up at Chintoor Agency.
Flood will however initially impact Yetapaka, Kunavaram and V.R. Puram mandals. In fact, should the Sabari inflows continue to rise, there are high chances that V.R. Puram and Kunavaram will be flooded.
“The flood mitigation measures have begun in Kunavaram Mandal. Preparations are on to arrange boats for shifting of people affected.” said PO Kavuri Chaitanya. As at July 7th, there is 26 meters at spillway level at Polavaram Irrigation Project. In Konaseema officials are also on alert for facing expected floods.
