According to Finnish police, a Finnish man is suspected of sexually abusing over 200 children on Omegle and other social media platforms via video chats.
He had reportedly contacted more than two hundred minors aged six to fifteen across Finland through video chat most of whom were girls and asked them to undress indecently before the web camera and perform sexual acts, police said.
The nameless thirty-year-old man has been in detention since April on charges related to child rape, child exploitation and grooming.
His initial contacts with the alleged victims were on Omegle; sometimes then continued on other social media sites, according to police.
Police have difficulties in identifying the children since they had anonymity when accessing Omegle at that time.
“There are still 177 unidentified victims,” said chief investigator Petri Lamppu of the Southwestern Finland police department.
Lamppu urged guardians or parents who thought their children could be victims of this crime which took place in 2022-2023 to come forward.
“This is a very big crime,” he said.
Omegle is full of sexual harassment and abuse claims by the police.
“Also children can fall into traps using TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Discord or Random,” they added reminding parents about controlling their kids’ online activities.
