BJP Deputy Legislature Party leader and Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar demanded the Congress government to present an affidavit to the bankers about its resolve to implement the farm loan waiver from August 15 so that fresh loans can be issued to farmers.
He claimed during his press briefing yesterday at this place, Mr. Shankar said it is “on record” that lenders have declined fresh advances on account of unpaid debts with no farmer able to borrow privately because heavy rates of interest have been charged by such lending institutions.
According to him, farmers need money during this time when planting season is commencing hence the concerned department should ensure adequate supply of quality seed and other inputs – but that’s not happening, he said.
“Seeds are being given out in several states amidst queues of men along with females and children: everywhere there are false seeds and no action against illegal dealers or vendors. What happened to task force teams or vigilance teams?,” he asked.
The MLA accused the government of putting more focus on inviting the Congress leaders in Delhi for the State Formation Day function than looking into the problems being faced by the farmers. “There is total confusion in the administration,” he added.
