Farmers in Pollachi Revenue Division have appealed to the authorities to allow for check dams desiltation in the division and hasten renovation of these before the onset of rains.
At Sub-Collector’s office, Pollachi, a meeting of farmers’ grievances was held under the chairmanship of Sub-Collector Catherene Saranya. The WRO authorities were requested by farmers to sanction de silting of check dams because this would improve agriculture through alluvial soil and desilted check dams would augment water holding capacity and the ground water recharge aquifers will also benefit.
They asked that the works be expedited. They claimed that five check dams under Aliyar old ayacut were being taken up for repair, but they are progressing very slowly. In addition there has been complaint among farmers on staff shortage at Horticulture department which has slowed down information flow as well as assistance to farmers. The request from them was that Kamabalapatti village should be checked for any land treatment with coir pith and Angalakurichi village needs attention since sewage water from houses is let into Parambikulam Aliyar Project canals where there is real estate plots sale.
