Filmmaker Dr. Darshan Ashwin Trivedi has Ek Ruka Hua Faisla in the pipeline. It is an adaptation of a film titled Basu Chatterjee’s 1986 movie. However, alongside that movie, he has also finished filming a rather intriguingly named movie Bicycle Thief. The title matches an excellent Italian film Bicycle Thieves, produced in 1948. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Trivedi added that it is practically an ode to the director of the film he pays homage to, Vittorio De Sica.
“Vittorio De Sica has been my all time favorite director,” he stated. “This story is based on true events from the early 1990s, about a stolen bicycle. It’s more of a sarcasm because a lot of things have changed involving bicycles. (But) it wasn’t on the contrary for 1948 to 1990s. This is why bicycle is also that motive that I wanted to use. I wanted to maintain this title and give honor to the neo realism of Vittorio and all his work to Italian cinema.”
Scam 1992’s Hemant Kher and Samvedna Suwalka feature in this film. “The twist in the tale is that both of them are playing a double role in the film,” Trivedi has been quoted as saying. But there is more to it. “The entire film is shot using a hand-held camera. We never had a single shot where we used a tripod for the camera,” he stated. Kher and Suwalka are also starring in Ek Ruka Hua Faisla with Sameer Sharma.
In terms of how far the Bicycle Thief project has gone, Trivedi shared, “The film was done shooting in the month of June this year. Currently, it has been cut down by Amitabh Verma. I happen to go to the edit periodically. It is looking interesting. From the little I have seen, it looks a bit more than my expectations. I am very hopeful about that film.”
In regard to the release of Bicycle Thief, it will first have a journey of a film festival. “It has a quite good merit to go to the festivals” Trivedi said. “We want to release it in theatres,” one adds to. One truly wants each and every film to be released in theatres because that is the best form of liberation for the films.
