On May 30, police said that a former MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), his son and five other people were charged for rioting and assault in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.
According to them, Santosh Kumar Singh, who lives in Karanchapra village, claimed that they attacked him near a petrol station on May 29 after an argument.
Police stated that Former MLA Surendra Singh, his son Vidhya Bhushan Singh and five others have been booked on a complaint lodged by Mr. Santosh Singh.
“Based on the complaint police registered an FIR Wednesday night and booked the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation).” SHO Dokati Police Station Dharamveer Singh said
In 2017 Mr. Surendra Singh won from Bairia Assembly constituency as BJP candidate. In the elections of 2022 he was denied ticket by the party.
