On Saturday, V. Thiruppugazh, Advisor for National Disaster Management Authority said that the education system must teach students to ask the right questions instead of answering in a standardized format in exams as such would enable them handle real life situations.
“Today’s students are overburdened with a heavy syllabus. What I studied as a student has now become school subjects. We educate children in such a way that their answer should all be the same when writing examinations. But we do not incite these students into asking relevant queries. Pedagogy needs to change because it will not help them in life”, said Mr. Thiruppugazh during his graduation speech at the convocation ceremony of Anna University colleges of engineering (BIT Campus-Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Pattukottai and Thirukkuvalai).
The retired civil servant urged students to become self-reliant. “Graduation does not mean you stop facing an examination board. In every step of career building there are many more tests to write. And challenges to overcome.” he told students who might be listening to him . Parents have been cautioned not force their own unachieved goals on children.
