On August 21, the first batch of Dasara elephants were sent off in a traditional ceremony at Veeranahosahalli Gate in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, south Karnataka.
The jumbo march to Mysuru began on August 21 with Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, Minister in-charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Venkatesh, Chamarajanagar MP Sunil Bose, Hunsur MLA G.D. Harish Gowda and senior officials from the district present during the start of the walk.
Before flagging off the jumbo march itself, dignitaries showered flowers on the elephants.
August 21st, 2024 marked yet another moment in history when Gajapayana (procession of elephants) for the first group of Dasara elephants left their campsite.
Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, Minister in-charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Venkatesh, Chamarajanagar MP Sunil Bose, Hunsur MLA G.D. Harish Gowda and some other high-ranking government officials were all there to make this event a reality.
Nagarhole tiger reserve’s Veeranahosahalli Gate saw an elephant parade start off after a traditional function was carried out there on 21st August.
The dignitaries then threw flowers at them before commencing their jumbo march to Mysuru city.
Abhimanyu led nine specially decorated elephants for such occasions as this one.
They will be based at Aranya Bhavan in Mysuru for two days henceforth.
On 23rd august they are going to have a traditional reception at palace
Guests of the royals and housed within the palace property; these pachyderms will go through training for Jamboo Savari (procession of elephants) in the coming days.
