The Enforcement Directorate has registered a money laundering case and started probing the irregularities in finances at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital with a focus on the former principals Sandip Ghosh and other officials, official sources clarified on Tuesday (August 27, 2024).
Such federal crime investigation agencies have also had a look at a CBI FIR for initiating its Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) which is as good as an FIR, based on different sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
In regard to this hospital and medical college, the agency has collected banking and medical procurement documents in relation to this case from ‘multiple parties’ and may soon call the accused to record their statements, the sources said.
As per the sources, the accused persons in the ED case are the same who have been availability of accused persons are same as those mentioned in complaint filed before CBI they said.
In its FIR under the directions of Calcutta High Court, CBI has registered against Ghosh and has booked him and three Kolkata based private entities Ma Tara Traders of Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Khama Trading company of 4/1, Belgachia and Eshan Cafe, Khama Louha.
The CBI has invoked multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code like 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) and in addition they have leveled section 7 (offence relating to public servant being bribed) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

One of the CBI officials was reported to have addressed media personnel yesterday evening during conducted search operation & have said that “ bahut kuch hai ” , which pairs literally with English “There is a lot”.
