Residents of some bordering areas of Bishnupur and Imphal East districts of Manipur turned off all lights on Friday night after spotting some drones, officials have said.
Drones were recently used by militants to carry out air attacks by dropping bombs on people at two locations in Imphal West district a few days ago.
On the night of Friday, reports stated that there were many drone sightings in Narainsena, Nambol Kamong in Bishnupur district and Pukhao, Dolaithabi, Shantipur in Imphal East district which created panic in the areas, officials said.
Frightened villagers rushed indoors and turned off any light which was on in their houses.
According to an official, security forces have been put on high alert in neighboring areas to observe crowds of people especially in the inner areas.
Several illumination rounds were fired in the sky in one of the Bishnupur districts that created panic and confusion in the public but it is unclear if security forces or someone else fired those rounds.
The first covert use of aerial devices such as drones as a weapon was reported from Manipur when on 1st September in a Koutruk village Imphal West District. 3 armed men entered a local convenience store and killed 2 people and injured 9 who attempted to confront them during the robbery.
The remote-controlled small flying device was put to work once more the following day in Senjam Chirang about 3 kilometers away inflicting three injuries on the people.
