Drake, the famed Canadian rapper with multiple Grammy Awards, will turn his attention to the Indian Premier League finals in Chennai this Sunday. To everyone’s surprise, Drake has placed his “first ever cricket bet” on Shah Rukh Khan’s team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), ahead of their clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) today.
On Saturday, Drake took to his Instagram Stories and shared a screenshot of him having placed money on KKR for its match against SRH in today’s finals of the IPL. The screenshot indicated that he had 1.70 odds on that bet. The value of his stake stands at $250,000 while an approximate amount expected if he wins would be around $425,000. “Since @ovorajaju team is out,I am going with KKR for my first ever cricket bet (teary-eyed laughter emoji) Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo,” wrote Drake beside the picture.
For Drake however his interest in the Indian Premier League finals goes beyond mere curiosity; it is tied to personal investment. This comes after winning Grammy artist stated that he has made his “first ever cricket bet”on actor Shah Rukh Khan’s team—Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR). This choice was influenced by his manager who is Sureshkumar Subramaniam alias @ovorajaju on instagram.While Subramaniam did not mention which team he favors more than others,telling by this post both him and Drake will be watching this game eagerly hoping for KKR to succeed.For Drake,however,this gamble represents more than just financial stake—it is a testament to his belief and support for SRK’s side in IPL.
At the end of league stage matches,KKR led the Points Table having won nine games losing three and drawing two thus accumulating 20 points. They progressed straight to the final by defeating SRH in the first qualifier. In qualifier two,SRH had another shot at the title after going down to Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs.
The IPL finals, set for a 7 p.m kickoff today at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium would also lure some of KKR’s star-studded followers. These include Shah Rukh and his family such as wife Gauri Khan, kids Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan, daughter Suhana Khan with friends Ananya Panday and Shanaya Kapoor, KKR co-owners Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta. The American band called Imagine Dragons will also perform during the closing ceremony at 6pm today.
