Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will be hosted by Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida on Friday.
“Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago” was Trump’s social media post. He referred to his golf club and private residence in the message.
The meeting is their first since Mr. Trump left office and comes with tensions between Mr. Netanyahu and democratic President Joe Biden over Israel’s conflict with the Hamas in Gaza.
Trump released a letter from Palestine’s president Mahmoud Abbas who wrote him during his recent rally in Pennsylvania where he was shot at. Abbas wished Trump “strength and safety,” as it were. The president also expressed his readiness for negotiations about Middle East peace when he meets with Benjamin Netanyahu.
During this week’s visit to Washington, according to reports, Netanyahu had asked for a meeting with Trump while he was there personally. On Wednesday, the Israeli leader plans to address Congress as well as meet both US President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris who announced her candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections after Joe Biden dropped out.
Observers say that the Israeli PM is waiting until after the November U.S. election to make any commitments because polls show a close contest. A second term of office under President Trump would afford greater freedom of action in Gaza Strip war for instance is one opinion held among many people. They agreed on things like moving America’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem which won Israel’s leaders but lost them friends among Palestinians during Donald Trump presidency (2017-2021) who shared common ideas with Benjamin Netnayahu.
Following The Oct 7 Hamas attack on Israel that killed several persons, Trump has blamed Netanyahu for failing on security and accused him of dragging feet in releasing hostages captured by Hamaas within Gaza strip while calling for an end of fighting too. Trump highlighted Netanyahu’s role in securing those agreements between USA-Israel-UAE and Bahrain as well, which is also outlined in his social media post.
“During my first term, we had peace and stability in the region, even signing the historic Abraham Accords – And we will have it again,” Trump said on Truth Social. He also said that Harris, as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, was “in no way capable of stopping” world conflicts.
