The government of Karnataka will organise a series of programmes on December 26 and 27 in Belagavi to celebrate the centenary of the 1924 session of the Congress in the city.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, will unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Suvarna Soudha on December 27 in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Leaders of various parties, including opposition party leaders, MPs, the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly and Chairman of the council, MLAs of all parties and council members, have been invited.
On December 26, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the premises of the Veera Soudha in Belagavi, the venue of the 1924 session. Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the refurbished photo gallery that has rare photographs of Gandhiji attending the session. Freedom fighters and other leaders have been invited.

The leaders will unveil a statue of Gangadharrao Deshpande, Congress leader and contemporary of Gandhiji , who was instrumental in organising the 1924 session at Ramateerth Nagar in Belagavi, on December 26. They will also inaugurate a memorial hall in honour of the former AICC general secretary.
The Congress party will also hold some events. On December 26, a Congress working committee meeting will be held in the Veera Soudha. On December 23, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala visited the venue of the celebrations in Veera Soudha and the CPEd grounds where Congress will hold a public rally on December 27.
Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, ministers Satish Jarkiholi and Lakshmi Hebbalkar, MLAs Ganesh Hukkeri and Asif (Raju) Sait, Youth Congress leader Mohammed Nalapad, Belagavi Rural Congress president Vinay Navalagatti, KPCC secretary Sunil Hanamannavar and others were present on this occasion.
