As of now, 17 people have died due to diarrhea in three districts of Jabalpur division in Madhya Pradesh during the current monsoon season, a health official said here on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Of these fatalities, six each were reported from Jabalpur and Mandla districts while five were from Dindori district. Sanjay D Mishra regional director health services PTI was told that a total of 800 people fell ill due to diarrhea. The deaths took place over one-and-a-half months period he said.
About 350 patients with diarrhea were found in Dindori district which recorded five deaths Mr Mishra said. In Mandla around 180 cases of diarrhea were reported while Jabalpur saw 150 such cases in Kundam Sihora and Patan blocks he added.
According to him tests have been conducted on the patients some places showed water contamination. People are advised to drink only boiled water cover their food besides maintaining hygiene around them he added.
Borewell supply has been stopped in affected areas and tankers are supplying water Mr Mishra said adding that health workers are camping at affected sites and providing medicines too. Serious condition of patients is attributed to the delayed treatment as they reach hospitals late, he said.
The health workers also went door-to-door counseling patients and other residents he added.
