On Monday, the Dhangar community in Maharashtra held a ‘rasta roko’ protest asserting that the Government frames a Government Resolution (GR) for the ST status provision.
Medical help was declined by more than six community leaders on the indefinite hunger strike for 15 days and argued that GR should only be a recognition to the fact that there is no Dhangars and Dhangads and they all are Dhangars.
Delay in GR
On September 15, Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde had held a sitting regarding the matter. After the hold up in the passing of a GR, the Dhangar community members stepped up their agitation.
BJP MLC Gopinath Padalkar, who has been mediating between the government and the community, also participated in the protest.
