Delta Airlines flight bound for the Netherlands had to land at New York urgently because of food poisoning among passengers. The airplane took off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and was forced to land in JFK while flying over Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Reports have it that the Airbus A330 landed safely at 4 am this morning (July 3rd) and met with medics who were supposed to take care of those affected.
The airline, however, has not disclosed how they identified the contamination, whether all or some of the 277 passengers ate it or whether they exhibited any signs of food poisoning.
An aggrieved passenger tweeted: “@delta I need to know how you’re going to get me to Amsterdam today – I’m on the plane that’s emergency landing at JFK because you served passengers “contaminated” food – I don’t need hotel/food vouchers I need to arrive in Amsterdam today.”
They added a statement saying; “Delta flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York’s JFK early Wednesday morning after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled. Medical crews met the aircraft to treat any affected passengers and crew members.
Delta’s Food Safety team has engaged our suppliers to immediately isolate the product and launch a preliminary investigation into this occurrence. This is not what Delta is known for as we deeply regret any inconvenience arising from such delays.”
