The national capital woke up to partly cloudy skies which were followed by a drizzle in the morning of Wednesday, the 11th September 2024.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had said that there is going to be more rain until Friday that was why the city was under yellow alert.
However according to the IMD factors such as the thunderstorm as well as strong winds will continue to suppress rainfall in Delhi in the days to come. It may trigger incidents of water logging particularly on the low lying and crowded areas and related traffic jams.
Earlier on Sunday; September 8 for instance, rain was followed by waterlogging in some areas of the national capital. In Mundka vehicles were seen stranded as roads were submerged with water. Traffic was heavy as there were many vehicles but few clear roads. The rainfall late Saturday was welcomed break from the hot dry conditions of the capital.
In other developments this week there was flooding in Ajmer Rajasthan due to heavy rains. Areas which were afflicted most were low laying and submerged with vehicles trying a futile tug through water-filled roads. Traffic was already bad due to flooding on major roads causing further backups.
The IMD has also released a regional forecast for the territory of northwest India. As per their prediction, “Fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh as the week progress; isolated to scattered rainfall over the remaining region during the week. Isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan during 11-13 September, Haryana on 12 September. Additionally, little heavy rainfall is also very likely over Uttarakhand and Haryana during 11-14 September, and over Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan during 11-15 September.”
