A Vacation Bench of the Delhi High Court on June 25, 2024, stayed a trial court judgment that grant regular bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Excise Policy case, stating that the lower court did not gave the Enforcement Directorate adequate opportunity to argue against the bail application.
The Vacation Bench headed by Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, on June 21, reserved its order.
“This Court has decided that the vacation judge did not appropriately appreciate the material on record and the averments of ED. Accordingly, the application is allowed and the operation of the impugned order is stayed”, said one of them.
The AAP national convenor arrested on March 21 by Enforcement Directorate (ED) would have walked out from Tihar jail if interim relief had not been granted to it by high court on behalf of central anti-money laundering agency.
On June 20, Kejriwal was given bail by a trial court and released him upon his personal bond for Rs 1 lakh and some conditions were imposed such as Do nothing to obstruct about enquiry or witnesses influenced.
