On July 23, the Delhi High Court ordered X Corp and Google Inc to remove prima facie defamatory social media posts against Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter Anjali Birla.
Justice Navin Chawla also restrained unknown parties from directly or indirectly posting, circulating, communicating, tweeting or retweeting the alleged defamatory content mentioned by Anjali Birla in her defamation suit.
In twenty four hours’ time, all these perniciously offending words are to be expunged from the web by intermediaries; if there are other similar things she is yet to know about as the plaintiff, she will have to communicate such things immediately with X and Google respectively.
The same court has directed google India digital services pvt ltd., Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and others respondents on or before 22 August 2021.
She doesn’t want any more links or materials displayed on all social media platforms claiming that she passed UPSC exam because of her father’s help. The judge asked for a take-down order of posts for the public service commission test in which it was claimed that her father used his clout as a politician.
Her counsel submitted that she had appeared for the UPSC, Central Services Exam (CSE) and she was selected in the consolidated reserve list of 2019. She joined Indian Railways as an IRPS officer.
