On July 12th, the Delhi High Court has declined to grant bail to Bibhav Kumar, an aide of the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal.
Mr. Kumar’s plea for bail was dismissed by Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta on the ground that no relief was made out.
Currently in judicial custody, he is alleged to have assaulted Ms. Maliwal at Mr. Kejriwal’s official residence on May 13th. He had been arrested on May 18th.
An FIR was lodged against him under various sections of IPC including criminal intimidation, assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and attempt to commit culpable homicide etc on May 16th .
Mr. Kumar had applied for bail asserting that charges were false and his custody was no longer needed as investigation had come to an end.
