Justice Neena Bansal Krishna told Mr. Kejriwal’s lawyer that it could come at 2.30 p.m. on August 5th. When he asked about when to expect a final judgement.
The High Court had on July 17 reserved its order on Mr. Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in the corruption case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam.
After arguments advanced by counsel for Mr. Kejriwal and CBI, court had reserved the order on AAP leader’s bail plea on July 29.
It was asserted that his arrest was an ‘insurance’ arrest designed to keep him inside jail as per his advocate. While challenging his arrest.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kejriwal’s lawyer called his arrest a “sham”, arguing that there was no intention of arresting him by the CBI and that. There wasn’t any material taking him into custody; instead, it is clear from what happened after this point that. He was arrested so as not to leave prison according to proceedings.
Opposing both pleas of Mr. Kejriwal’s counsel, CBI’s counsel submitted before court that terming. It as an “insurance arrest” is baseless and added that. He is the ‘sutradhaar’ of excise scam along with evidence showing his involvement in this offence.
On June 26th, Mr. Kejriwal was arrested from Tihar Jail. Where he continues to be held under judicial custody connected with money laundering (ED) case filed earlier against him.
The CM had been granted bail by trial court on June20 but this decision got stayed by the high court.
On July 12, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Mr. Kejriwal in the money laundering case.
In 2022, Delhi LG had scrapped the excise policy and ordered a CBI probe into alleged irregularities and corruption committed during its formulation and implementation.
According to CBI and ED, while modifying the excise policy certain irregularities were committed and license holders received undue advantages.
