On July 31, Delhi police personnel were on site during a student protest concerning the death of three aspirants in civil service examination due to drowning at a coaching centre located in Old Rajinder Nagar area, New Delhi.
Delhi Police removed some “outsiders” from a protest site in Rajinder Nagar on July 31 while hundreds have been demonstrating for justice after death of 3 students aspiring for civil services at Rau’s IAS Study Circle.
A police officer said that over a dozen people were removed from the protest site as they were identified as “outsiders” and not students studying at any coaching institute.
In the meantime, a group of UPSC aspirants met MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar at agency headquarters here on July 31 amidst protests that have broken out following the demise of three pupils at one coaching institute within the national capital city.
Among other things, students have approached Mr. Kumar about safety concerns in different institutions offering coaching services.
A civic body official said he was in an ongoing meeting with them.
The demonstration has been going on since July 28 with more than four hundred civil service candidates participating under tight police vigilance and continuous threat of arrest.
Students are demanding better facilities and are determined to keep it non-political.
They say some ‘outsiders’ have been trying to sabotage their campaign by shouting political slogans at their gathering place.
To discuss further actions about this grievance and communicate with relevant authorities, student protestors said they formed a coordinating committee involving fifteen members
Goutam, one among these civil service hopefuls observed: “We have formed a 15-member committee and the committee members will decide further course of action.”
For this purpose, participants from various educational centres sit-in Rau’s Study Circle from July 28 up to now in order to make sure their demands are heard by everyone present including themselves through demonstrations against Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) hunger strike.
Another student, Sunil Kumar said, “We will continue our protest till our demands are met.”
The senior police officers have been visiting the site of demonstration and interacted with protestors to know what they want from him, Harsha Vardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) told the correspondent.
“DCP Vardhan added that on Tuesday committee members formed by students had seen LG Delhi. I have also appraised them about the actions taken and how far investigation has gone,” he said.
On July 30, Delhi Police questioned VP Gupta who is father-in-law to owner of one coaching center.
Four Municipal Corporation officials were also called in for questioning yesterday
“We asked Mr. Gupta about ownership rights to this coaching center,” a senior police officer stated as well as clarifying that Rau’s IAS Study Circle owner Abhishek Gupta’s wife might be interrogated in future.
Five persons including four co-owners of basement of the building in which this coaching centre was functioning were apprehended.
The driver of an SUV who tried to drive through a flooded street thereby causing its water level to rise and eventually enter into the three-storey structure before flooding its basement was among the five arrested. The car was impounded too.
On the other hand, three individuals named Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni and Nevin Dalvin lost their lives in an accident caused by water from raining that flowed into basement of a coaching institute building located at Old Rajinder Nagar on July 27 evening.
