On 26th June, a defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi on behalf of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah by an MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The court has called Rahul Gandhi to appear before them on July 2.
Santosh Kumar Pandey, counsel for complainant said Ram Pratap had sought to be joined as a party in the matter and this was opposed by Mr. Pandey stating that Pratap is not a victim nor does he have any connection with the case.
The petitioner’s advocate Kashi Prasad Shukla who was present argued otherwise but the prayer was dismissed. Nevertheless, the court refused this application and ordered personal appearance of Mr. Gandhi on next date of hearing.
In 2018, a defamation case was filed against the Congress leader over his alleged objectionable remarks against Amit Shah. It was BJP leader Vijay Mishra who lodged this complaint against him.
Mr. Gandhi stopped his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” in Amethi during February 20, this year to appear before a magistrate where he got bail.
