A joint rescue operation has been jointly carried out by BSF, NDRF, SDRF and Assam Rifles at the landslides-hit stone quarry in Aizawl on Thursday.
After the body of a 34-year-old woman was found in Tlawng River in Kolasib district, officials announced that the number of deaths from landslides in Mizoram had increased to 29.
On Tuesday, a landslides occurred affecting a couple named Vanlalruali and her husband who went missing after being hit by it at Aibawk village in Aizawl district.
According to them, she died as her body was spotted floating on Tlawng river at Hortoki village that shares boundary with Assam in Kolasib district.
It is finally confirmed that she is dead; her remains were transported to Kawnpui after they were pulled out of the waterway.
They are also looking for five other people who are currently missing – four from Melthum, one newborn baby aged six months inclusive and another one who belongs to Vanlalruali’s spouse.
The incidents happened across several locations within Aizawl District. Of the total number of casualties reported, 21 were locals while eight hailed from Jharkhand and Assam.
Mr Lalduhoma, Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia amounting ₹4 lakh each to be given to each families of the victims.
He said government has set aside Rs 15 crore for disaster related expenses incurred due to Cyclone Remal-induced rainfall.
