Kullu, August 11th, 2024: A spate in Beas River follows torrential rains due to the monsoon.
According to officials, landslides and flash floods prompted by heavy rains since Sunday (August 11) have resulted in the closure of about 338 roads including four national highways in Himachal Pradesh.
On Monday (August 12), people said several parts of Una are waterlogged.
However, rescue operations are being carried out to trace about 30 missing persons after flash floods hit Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts on July 31st but with no major break through. According to officials, so far, they have recovered a total of twenty-eight bodies.
They said more than one hundred people died in rain-related incidents while the state incurred losses worth around ₹842 crores between June 27 and August 9.
On Monday (August 12), the State Emergency Operation Centre revealed that among the closed roads there were 104 in Shimla, 71 in Mandi, 58 in Sirmaur district, 55 in Chamba, 26 in Kullu, 7 each for Solan & Lahaul & Spiti district, 5 for Kinnaur district, 4 for Kangra district and Bilaspur had just one.
It added that on Monday (August 12) alone there were also reports of disruption on 488 power supply schemes and 116 water supply schemes across the ‘states’ Hamirpur district..
Regional Met office has issued a ‘yellow’ warning for heavy rain at isolated places till Saturday besides warning low to moderate risk flash flooding over parts of Chamba, Kinnaur, Sirmaur and Shimla Districts until Tuesday.
Since Sunday (August 11) evening, Nagal dam recorded rainfall of 115 mm followed by Kasauli which was second with 87 mm. In Una it was 56 mm, Naina Devi 82.2 mm, Olinda 79 mm, Jatton Barrage 75.4mm, Nadaun 72.5mm, Poanta Sahib 62 mm, Sujanpur Tira 60.6mm and in Dhaulakuan 56.5mm, according to weather office.
The officials said that Chamba, Mandi, Kinnaur, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan have reported flash floods and land slides.
