Fourteen people who have been accused of smuggling 2000 people to Europe from largely Turkey since 2021 were charged on Tuesday by the Czech police.
Jaroslav Ibehej, the spokesperson for organized crime department at Czech Police, said via the Czech Police website that these fourteen persons can face up to sixteen years in jail if found guilty while being held in custody.
Additionally, he said that this group has probably earned at least €2m ($2.2m) from their actions.
The migrants were taken to as well as other EU countries by this particular syndicate.
Ibehej reported that the police had managed to confiscate two cars, a house and $40k in cash.
