The State Home Minister, Vangalapudi Anitha, and several state officers have warned of numerous cyber frauds and asked people to be more careful when using mobile phones and apps.
August 10th, 2024 witnessed the beginning of a walkathon in Vijayawada aimed at raising awareness regarding cyber crimes. Ms. Anitha was accompanied by Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu, MLAs Gadde Rammohan Rao and Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Collector G. Srijana among others.
Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium – Benz Circle walkathon was organized where college students, police officers among other participants took part in it. Eventually they formed human chain asking public to beware of cyber frauds.
Others who took part in this walkathon included Deputy Commissioners of Police T. Hari Krishna, Chakravarthy etc., Mr H.M.Dhyanchand Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner along with other officers like DCP Gowthami Sali also participated.
Lately,the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) recorded an increase by 24% on cybercrime statistics with victims losing approximately ₹1,730 crore over four months in India according to the minister for home affairs.
“Cyber fraud has ensnared many officials; I urge mobile phone users to be cautious about online scams. Pay attention towards loan apps and money traps as well as other cybercrimes,” Vanitha added.
“The Indian government established Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre that prevents cyber offenses.” The Commissioner said while launching an Indian Cyber Citizen app “Be a Cyber Citizen”. He noted that around two hundred law enforcement personnel were designated as ‘cyber commandos’, whereas another two thousand ‘cyber soldiers’ would be recruited to enlighten the public about computer-related offenses,” he said Mr Rajasekhara Babu said.
Finally, the procession was led by Deputy Commissioners of Police T. Hari Krishna, Chakravarthy and Udaya Rani with their teams from various branches of police and VMC, Revenue and other Departments.
