A complaint has been made by a family at Kollikadavu, Koothaparambu, in Kannur district of Kerala to the police that their compound wall and gate were demolished by Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) workers using an earthmover on May 22 midnight. Police sources said it happened after the family refused to give away land for road-widening.
Hajira has claimed that CPI(M) party members tore down their house while they were locked inside by other party members. Hajira lives with her two children and one daughter-in-law who was also present during the incident.
According to reports, these goons used wires to lock three metal gates so as to prevent members of this family from going out.
The woman disclosed that her relatives had earlier discussed this matter of taking over the land with CPI(M) representatives who asked them if they could build another wall around the plot since as she noted, “We built it only one-and-a-half years ago”. She accused them of ending these talks without settling anything and then threatening her family’s life.
Public Works Department (PWD), Kerala required that piece of land in order to widen public road by 10 metres.
Police have registered a case against unidentified people at Koothuparam station and started investigations into the same.
On its part, the CPI(M) admitted its “intervention” in this road issue but denied any involvement in violence.
