The Congress on Friday (January 10, 2025) slammed the Narendra Modi government over a news report that the Union government had stopped the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) to offer scholarship to meritorious students.
In a post on X, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra claimed that a “public relation (PR) exercise weighed more than the vision for progress.
“The National Talent Search Examination’ Scholarship, started in 1963, paved the way for the future of many children, opened the doors to secure good education and they [children] became partners in the country’s progress,” Ms. Vadra said.
Quoting a news report, Ms. Vadra claimed that the NTSE scholarship has been stopped for the past three years.
“But pariksha pe charcha for the personal publicity of the discussion on the exam for the Prime Minister is still going on. In three years, 40 crores would have been spent on scholarship, while 62 crore have been spent on publicity,” Ms. Vadra added.
She claimed that with the closure of scholarships, for lakhs of students, the road to a bright future seems closed but “the Prime Minister’s PR did not stop”.
On Thursday, Congress leader Jairam Ram top had raised the issue and pointed out the scholarship was “discontinued three years ago on the grounds that expenditure on scholarships should be controlled”.
“But for the past three years, the non-biological PM has been running a PR stunt called Pariksha Pe Charcha on which some Rs 62 crore has been wasted…This is called Entire Political Science,” he added.
