Congress leaders condemn allegations made against Kharge, call it “humiliating attack”

Congress leaders strongly condemned the BJP’s actions in Parliament, accusing them of crushing democracy and insulting the Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday (December 13, 2024).

Congress MP Randeep Surjewala criticised the BJP and called it a “black chapter” in Parliament and democracy. He alleged that the Chairman of the House and the BJP are conspiring to humiliate Mr. Kharge, a Dalit and a farmer.”

Every day a black chapter of Parliament and democracy is being written by the BJP in the House. The conduct of the Chairman of the House and the connivance of the BJP, the exercise to save Adani has in a way crushed democracy under the bulldozer. The way the Chairman and the BJP are conspiring to make a humiliating attack on a farmer, a Dalit’s son, the Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, we strongly condemn it on behalf of all the parties.

We have only one demand, the entire opposition has put forward a proposal, it should be discussed, there should be a discussion on Adani, Sambhal, and the condition of farmers.,” he said.

Rajeev Shukla pointed out the BJP’s hypocrisy in creating a ruckus in the House and making allegations against Mr. Kharge. He stated that the ruling party’s behaviour is wrong and that people are angry with their actions. “You are seeing how they (BJP) are creating a ruckus in the House, raising slogans. Does the ruling party ever do this? The kind of allegations being made against Kharge ji, the way BJP members are speaking this attack on him is very wrong, people are very angry with this. They are insulting Kharge ji..,” he said.

Pramod Tiwari accused the BJP of having an anti-Dalit and anti-farmer mindset, citing their insult to Mr. Kharge. He claimed that the BJP didn’t allow the session to proceed because they didn’t want to discuss the Adani issue.

“It is sad to say that the BJP, with its anti-Dalit and anti-farmer mindset, insulted the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, who is a Dalit and a farmer. The session was not allowed to proceed because they did not want to discuss the Adani issue..,” he said.

The Rajya Sabha failed to function on Friday with uproar from the Treasury and Opposition benches over the no-confidence notice against House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The INDIA bloc submitted the no-confidence motion on December 10 to the Secretary-General of the Upper House of Parliament.

INDIA bloc parties held a joint press conference and said they were forced to resort to the step to “safeguard the democracy and Constitution”. The Winter Parliament Session commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The winter session is scheduled to go on till December 20.
