Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi on Friday declared that his party had also made mistakes and that it needed to change its politics in the future.
He made these claims at an event in Lucknow where he called Modi a “monarch” rather than prime minister and referred to him as a “front for a second-tier financier”.
When asked about the Indian constitution at the event in question, the former Congress president said he was ready to face-off against Modi if given the opportunity although he knew full well that such an offer will never come through.
“The Congress Party must change its politics for the future. This is something which should be done. I would like to add that there have been errors even within the party and I say this as a member of congress.
However, he did not elaborate on what “changes” he thinks Congress needs.

Gandhi alleged that BJP would end up with fewer seats than 180 in Lok Sabha elections.
“You want me to give you in writing then Modi won’t be PM again,” he repeated a speech on stage with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav held before this statement. Predictions made at a joint rally in Uttar Pradesh were mentioned previously.
“All politicians are interested only in power. It doesn’t interest me because I am born with it; but for me it is simply used as an instrument of public service,” he remarked.
He noted that 90% of India’s population comprised of poor people from Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, Dalits, tribals, minorities and general communities who were not being equally represented.
This re-iterated his call for caste-based census.
“If country wants to become strong then it has 90 percent people inside it. If you say we don’t need any one from these 90% people into bureaucracy or sports or media or judiciary or even beauty pageants what superpowers you will create? You want 10% of the population to become a superpower?
He then accused the prime minister of attacking the constitution. “Modi is king and I speak truth,” Gandhi said.
“He doesn’t belong to the Prime Minister, he belongs to King. He doesn’t have anything with cabinet, parliament, and constitution. It is not a Prime Minister; it’s a king in 21st century who front for two-three financiers with actual powers. After his speech was concluded, three questions were asked at the end by Gandhi among which one was about their recent suggestion that him and PM should participate in a debate.
“I’m ready to debate anyone including the Prime Minister by hundred percent. But I know that this prime minister won’t debate me,” he stated.
In addition, he mentioned party President Malika Junhaq could also be part of that discussion.
Gandhi replied that this issue required further consideration when questioned on why old pension system was not included in Congress manifesto.
Will institutions privatized by Modi government be nationalized again? “It will be difficult but we can’t allow naked privatization of large institutions” according to Gandhi.
