A review meeting was convened by District Collector N.S.K. Umesh here on Thursday to appraise the progress of those sectors that are under construction in NH 66 as well as NH 85.
This is after a car passenger died and others got injured in Mamala near here when the vehicle slipped into an unmarked hole in the ground where redevelopment work is going on for NH 85.
Mr. Umesh directed that mud, debris and other materials be cleared from drains and culverts along these highway corridors by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other agencies concerned. The drains must allow free flow of water while no flooding should take place.
Secretaries of local bodies gave updates on flooded sections along the highways. An inspection will be done at such spots next week Tuesday. On the other hand, Mr. Umesh instructed officials to decide whether to have a trenching company install underground power lines beneath national highways. The Kerala Water Authority has been given permission by NHAI to issue a no objection certificate for laying pipes below roads, which will promote Jal Jeevan Mission scheme.
According to a release, once officers visit sites, they will make decision on requirement for minimum vertical clearance in bridges across NH corridors .
