China on Thursday stated that it is opposed to any country allowing Dalai Lama visit in their country under any circumstances. This came after the Tibetan Buddhist leader met with the US state department on Wednesday and White House officials, according to Reuters.
“China has lodged solemn representations,” said Mao Ning, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman.
“The country does not allow the Dalai Lama engage himself in political separatist activities in America,” added Ning.
The United States reaffirmed its commitment to human rights of Tibetans yesterdaysaying “reaffirming the U.S. commitment to advancing the human rights of Tibetans.”
The fact is China has always seen Dalai Lama as a political separatist rather than a ‘pure religious figure’.
Earlier this year, China had warned about “resolute measures” following possible signing of the “Tibet policy bill” by US while also advising against supporting ‘’Xizang independence.’’
“It’s an open secret that 14th Dalai Lama is politically irresponsible and engaged in anti-China separatist activities under the disguise of religion,” it claimed.
“We are gravely concerned over relevant reports and hope that American side can fully recognize whatever nature of anti-China separatism contained in Dalai clique. They should also honor their commitments made to China on Xizang issues; there should be no form of contacts between U.S. side and DL clique, let alone sending out wrong signals to the world,” he added.
