China thanked the Indian Navy for helping a seriously injured Chinese sailor from a cargo ship near the coast of Mumbai and getting him urgent medical assistance on August 1.
The injured man was airlifted by an Indian naval helicopter while it was raining heavily and there were high winds from a bulk ship which was some 370 km (200 nautical miles) away from Mumbai and then taken to hospital where he had his wounds treated.
“Chinese side expresses its heartfelt appreciation to all the departments and personnel of the Indian side who overcame challenging conditions on the scene and carried out this humanitarian operation,” Mr. Lin said.
During the very early morning hours, an Indian Navy helicopter picked up one critically injured Chinese mariner off Panama-flagged bulk carrier ‘Zhong Shan Men’ which was later flown to an air station before being moved into another medical facility for proper care.
Despite a border dispute with China at Line of Actual Control, The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai coordinated with Indian Navy to ensure that patient is evacuated in time.
