Public anger over a raped and murdered female medical student in Kolkata is well understood, but the CBI should not allow it to be “quietly buried,” Derek O’Brien, a leader of the Trinamool Congress Party, said on August 16th Friday.
“It is difficult to imagine a more brutal and horrible act than the killing and raping of an innocent young woman in Kolkata. There is no need to say anything further since the public outcry is normal! She was just starting her career as a doctor. Thoughts and prayers with her family,” noted Rajya Sabha MP wrote.
Mamata Banerjee has called for a meeting at four o’clock p.m. today regarding the incident which demands that the CBI should give daily updates on its investigations into this case and it must be completed by August 17th.
On his page Mr. O’Brien clarified why Ms. Banerjee had decided to stage this rally: “Now that the case has been taken up by CBI there must be daily updates from them… The CM gave KP until 17th August for them to complete their investigation, so it’s only fair that CBI does too.”
“Kolkata Police arrested one person; however, justice will prevail once all those involved are apprehended by CBI and a speedy justice court proceeding instituted against all,” he noted.
This was also echoed by TMC Leader Derek O’Brien who stated that the government watchdogs were designed to help clean up after something bad happened when they should actually be taking action before it gets worse. “CBI taking over the case shouldn’t lead to it being quietly buried” said TMC leader
According to Mr. O’Brien, what we need right now is expeditious justice as well as severest punishment for those behind this crime because “no one who committed this barbaric act must be spared.”
Further speaking during an interview session he also promised that actions would be taken against those involved in ruining RG Kar Hospital. “19 people have been arrested by the police,” he added.
A PG trainee doctor who was on duty at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, a State-run one, Kolkata, was raped and murdered on August 9th. The following day a civic volunteer was arrested for the offense.
Few hours past midnight last night unknown vandals went to the hospital premises where a lady physician had died a week ago and destroyed some parts of it.
These acts of vandalism took place amid demonstrations staged by women late at night against the rape-murder case.
It is hard to conceive of a more bestial, heinous crime than the murder and rape of a young woman that took place in Kolkata. The public outrage is entirely understandable. Thoughts and prayers with her family.
“Why is @MamataOfficial leading a rally on the RG Kar Hospital…
