Cauvery Emporium on MG Road has handsomenesses of handicrafts.
The handicraft shopping center Cauvery Emporium, which is a landmark, announced that the iconic Cauvery emporium at M.G.Road would be shifting to a new building and yet remain in the same road five years ago. Officers from KSHDCL now say that there might be a possibility of the building being ready in another two and half months.
When it was announced in 2019, the four storied building was supposed to have been completed within eight months. The construction work for this project had earlier been done by Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), but it was handed over to Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) because KRIDL did not explain why they delayed the construction work.
In 2022, officials revealed that it will take six to eight months before completion of the project but still, it is under construction. Ms Roopakala. M, who is also Congress MLA from KGF and Chairperson of KSHDCL said she does not want to talk about what caused them delay this project but added that after she took charge things are happening in full swing. “The work has been going on consistently since February after I chaired a meeting with all the stakeholders including BMTC officials and asked them to stick to a strict timeline. Civil works are just 90% through while interior works are continuing for two floors. They demand only two and a half more months for completion. Also we have our Board of Directors using KAS officers who visit each day as they monitor progress,” she said.
The annual rent for this building housing emporium is above ₹3 crore. “We want our own building instead of renting so that one day we can make Cauvery Emporium an art and craft centre representative from every part of Karnataka. It is our most important goal,” said Ms.Roopkala.
KSHDCL desires to move its offices from the current building to the new one in a month’s time. However, it will take four or five months for all other operations and stores to gradually shift as this would create awareness of new building amongst their customers, according to the officials.
