The opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, criticized the Union Budget 2024-25 on July 23, alleging that the Finance Minister was making empty promises.
Through his tweet he said “Kursi Bachao Budget. Appease Allies: Hollow promises to them at the cost of other states. Appease Cronies: Benefits to AA with no relief for the common Indian. Copy and Paste: Congress manifesto and previous budgets.”
“Also using ‘X,’ Mallikarjun Kharge commented,” The Modi Government’s budget is a copycat one which could not even copy congress justice agenda properly! The Modi Government’s budget is distributing half-hearted ‘rewadis’ to dupe its coalition partners so that the NDA survives. This is a ‘save Modi government’ budget not for the ‘progress of the country.’
According to him, Mr. Kharge criticized youth, farmers, Dalits, Adivasis, backward classes, minorities, middle class and rural poor in this year’s budget because there was no significant plan for women and it ignored many critical issues such as inflation rise and rural development.
He stated that “There is nothing concrete! The word poor has become only a method of self-branding”.
In addition, Mr. Kharge attacked government on railway safety as well as census issues and job openings.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram spoke about scattered opportunities in the budget. While welcoming Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) from Indian National Congress (INC) manifesto and Apprenticeship Scheme in India. However he would have loved if more ideas from INC manifesto were taken up. Chidambaram also approved of removal of Angel Tax by stating that it had been long demanded by Congress Party.

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav added, “The main concern regarding women is their safety, and this issue has not been address. The government does not want to take any steps to control inflation.”
CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury joined the chorus of criticism on the budget by saying that. It failed to address rising unemployment and inflation as well as food prices. He also pointed out that government expenditure as percent of GDP was less than before hence making life harder for people.
