People posted a video of the collapse of the retaining wall on social media. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of being responsible for this accident.
They have put the blame on Telangana’s Chief Minister, A RevanthReddy who is also in charge of Municipal Administration and Urban Development portfolio, for the fall down of the retaining wall of Sunkishala Project that was taken up for supply of drinking water to Hyderabad and habitations en route in Nalgonda and Rangareddy district as also to meet the industrial needs.
Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad last Friday (August 9, 2024), working president BRS K.T.Rama Rao, state legislators & former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Md.Mahamood Ali & P.SabithaIndra Reddy and MLA K.P.Vivekanand said that despite being warned by Hyderabad Water Works engineers not to take up fixing up gates during flood season due to its constructional fragility; it happened because there was no proper supervision on it.
Inquiry by sitting or retired judge demanded
An inquiry with an independent judge should be ordered by the government into this incident involving public exchequer and it shall be announced by M.Bhatti Vikramarka Deputy CM reportedly making his scheduled visit to the incident site. ’In this particular case, no one died as shift change was taking place at that time’.
Mr. Rao termed it as lack of responsibility & failure by the Chief Minister and his Government saying that they had maliciously made sure that nobody got wind of what transpired whereas it is a convention to make announcements about such incidents in the assembly. In addition he mentioned how just a day afterthe occurrence, the CM dashed off on US tour.
If there were no lapses from government why did they keep it under wraps for one week until it blew up through social media and now trying to put the blame on the earlier (BRS) government, quizzed Mr. Rao. If the government were sincere about the incident, Mr. Rao insisted that until such time, they conclude with the investigation, the agency executing the work should be blacklisted by government.
He also said that rather than ordering a departmental inquiry or having a judicial probe into it, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had sought an investigation by a national agency when Medigadda incident happened recently in which NDSA promptly responded.
Mr.Rama Rao charged that in its nine-month journey resulting in good whatever happens becomes a grand success for Congress Government but if bad things occur then it would become failure of previous regime. For instance how presently Government claimed credit of providing jobs to 30 thousand individuals where as process of selection was conducted during BRS regime.
It is good to mention that Sunkishala drinking water project is not a new idea, but it was first proposed by the then Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Government and then dropped after farmer’s protests resulting in the death of a Sub-Inspector of Police. It was also considered by N.Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy Governments at later stages but they did not go ahead with it because of similar protests from farmers.
