The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has just apologised as he regretted leaving the D-Day anniversary in France early. Such an action which made him return to his country for the election campaign, has been found fault with.
Sunak post on X suggested that it had been difficult for him to win the support of voters before July 4th. “Once the Britsh event in Normandy ended I came back home,” he admitted. He further said it was a bad move not staying longer in France and apologized for this.
On reflection, it was a mistake not to stay in France longer – and I apologise.
World leaders such as US Joe Biden and Britain’s King Charles participated at Normandy, northern France, during its commemoration of its 80th anniversary of allied landings, a key incident in World War Two.
At British led events Sunak spoke but left other duties like speaking on behalf of foreign secretary David Cameron who was pictured standing beside Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and German chancellor Olaf Scholz at another memorial service after that event.
According to news reports; It is understood that Sunak departed early from the event due to wanting to do a TV interview with a British broadcaster. As things stand nationally Sunak’s Conservative Party is currently behind Labour by about 20 points in opinion polls ahead of the general election.
